With virtually thousands of children’s books covering the shelves at your neighborhood book store how can you possibly find a good children’s book?
What I look for in a children’s book is content and art.
I am not fond of the children’s books that can be read in two seconds and with a story line so simple I could have come up with a better story myself. So I look for a book that has some meat to it. That has a good little story that both teaches and entertains. I want my child to understand what the story is about, but also make sure that the story has a good message.
The second thing that I look for is art. The artwork in the book can be just as important to me as the content. I remember when I was a child loving to look at the pictures in my favorite books. Looking at the illustrations sparked my imagination and made the story come alive for me. I look for books with good illustrations that help propel the story along without distracting from it either.
What I look for in a children’s book is what is the book saying and how is it saying it.
