An Add-On for that Book Gift
14 commentsHappy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you have enjoyed some great food and time with your loved ones. I know this is a year I have a lot to be thankful for; I hope you are able to say the same.
Today I wanted to share a little project with you that you can make to add to a book gift. I first read about this book journal around summer where people were making it for their children for their summer reading. I think it's an excellent idea for children, but as I brainstormed with it, I thought it might also make a great gift for a book club member - maybe you do an exchange with your book club or you know someone who is in a book club.
But how many people do you know who say they can't remember the books they've read at a later date? Many people start blogs to keep records of what they are reading. A book journal is a way to encourage a loved one to not only read, but reflect on what they've read and keep it to look back on later. Making the journal yourself creates a one-of-a-kind gift.
If your loved one has a specific kind of book that they enjoy reading, you could theme your papers to match. Or pick papers in colors that the person favors.
The book in the picture is detailed here at Two Peas in a Bucket, and they have pictures of the inside of the mini-book. But this sample is just something to work from. You could put your book together in any number of ways. Here are directions to make a paper bag album. You could use your printable library cards in the pockets of the paper bag album (be sure to print them on card stock). A paper bag album is a basic project you could do with a child to create for a teacher or a friend. And of course, at your local craft store there are gads and gads of pre-made mini albums as well.
Here's an example of another project I have that is a constant work in progress, but it is no more than some shaped chipboard covered in patterned paper for the covers. The pages inside are card stock cut into various shapes. Plus, I've added some souvenirs I've collected along the way. The album is all held together by two rings from the office supply store. The nice thing about the rings is that you can get the size that fits the book you want to create. A bigger book, larger diameter ring. It's a very simple, basic project, but it's unique. And really, isn't that what our reading experiences are? Unique?

Very cute. Recenlty read Ghostnapped by Ashley Howland to my class, really recommend this book, would make a great christmas present to any aged children. Or adult for that matter. I enjoyed it aswell, took me bcak to those old family camping trips! You can purchase this book at:

It seems like it would be especially great for readers who aren't as tech-savvy (since you're right: Many people start blogs to keep track of what they've read).
